Skype Basics

So what is Skype?

Skype is a software application initially released in August 29, 2003. It was later on developed by Microsoft Skype Division. It enables millions of its registered users to avail Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls for FREE and lets you avail group video calls, calls to landline telephones, mobile phones, and transfer files over the internet, plus you may also get Skype features for your TV at a considerably low cost!

The software display varies according to what device you are using, whether that be Mac, iPhone, Windows 8, Windows Desktop, Android and iPad. To use Skype, you need to have a high-speed home broadband, a webcam, a microphone and speakers.

Skype Basics: How do we get started with Skype?

STEP 1:

First, you need to sign in to Skype’s website via your user/Skype name. If you haven’t sign up yet, you may do this through a Microsoft account or connect via Facebook.

STEP 2:

Then, download Skype and install it on your desktop, or whatever device you are using. Remember to download the latest version.

STEP 3:

Once you have Skype downloaded and installed, add your contacts by searching and typing their username, email add or full name. Another option to increase the number of your connections is to inform your relatives, friends or acquaintances about your newly created account and kindly request them to add you up on their contact list.

 STEP 4:

To start a call or a video call, click Contacts and choose the individual you wish to call. Click the video call/call button, whichever you want to do.
